This is the story of how the Wildwood project came to be and what it is all about.

My name is Kelly Hanna and I currently own and operate Hanna Woodworks in Dallas, Texas
and have been in business since 1977. I build decks, fences, pergolas and patio covers among other
outdoor and indoor projects. I've been restoring old furniture and building new pieces since 1972 as a hobby.
My first 2 projects were in shop class in high school and I have been a woodshop enthusiast ever since. The first
thing I built was a walnut and ash plaque for my father, I still have it today. He was VP of Piggly Wiggly's
western division, but he loved to tinker in the shop and fix things around the house. Dad's plaque....

One of my most challenging projects came to light when one of my client's relatives asked if I
could rebuild her cedar armoire. I said of course, thinking it just needed a little work. I got to the house to
pick it up and found 14 pieces of aromatic cedar in the driveway. It looked like someone had tossed the armoire out
of a truck going 20 mph! That project took me a couple of long of nights to figure out where the pieces
went, but I finally got it back together...I had to make three completely new pieces to complete the armoire
but they blended perfectly after sanding. This was the result....

This project got me really interested in eastern red cedar. It quickly became my favorite wood to work with.
During the process of rebuilding the armoire, I met a sawyer in Canton and I was immediately hooked on the idea of
owning my own sawmill. After hiring him to cut the panels and posts for a cedar log bed
I was building for my wife and I, I knew what I wanted to do.

My goal is to start a small local sawmill business, one that can travel to landowner's acreages to cut lumber
from the trees that need to be removed. Any unwanted lumber will be kept for re-sale or use
at our house. The mill will be built on a trailer like the one below and will be able to cut up to 21' long and 30"
in diameter. Aside from cutting lumber for building, I will be also cutting for use as furniture. Slabs for

table tops, beds dressers and cabinets will be among the products I will be able to provide.

All of the sources for aromatic cedar and mesquite are local sawmill owners and there are none in my immediate area.
Most of my neighbors know that I am a woodworker and I've been asked several times if I knew anyone who could
cut lumber. Right now, we would have to load up the trees and haul them to Edom [45 miles away] to get them cut.
Ideally, this type of work is done on property very close to the source of the trees and in most cases, on
the landowner's property.

I have access to several acres of cedar trees, two huge red oaks and a hundred or so
mesquite trees on land close to our house. My cutting list is already long! These same folks have told me that ranchers
need cedars and mesquites removed for many reasons including water conservation. Did you know that in a
given acre in our area, there are enough cedars & mesquites to drink over 55,000 gallons of water a year?

I also recycle lumber from demolitions on the jobsites I work on. I have re-used well over 2000 boards
taken from old decks and fences just in the last 7 years. I have also given away at least that many if not more
to friends for their projects. I plan on being able to re-saw older lumber into new, well seasoned wood
for re-use on new projects. I hope to be the first in my area to offer reclaimed lumber as an option
to the normal higher priced lumberyard choices. below is a reclaimed lumber deck I built at a friend's place.

This service is needed in my area and it's very good for the environment. The business will allow me to work closer

to home and stop driving over a hundreds miles a day. I have a person willing to take over my current business,
but he is not able to buy it outright. For this reason, I have come to Indiegogo to see if I can crowdfund
the new venture. I will, in turn, finance the sale of the company to the new operator at a very reasonable cost.
I hope to complete the entire transition within 5 years of funding Wildwood.

Everyone who helps fund the project gets a perk. Starting at only $10 and ending at $5000, each donation
will result in a perk given to you for your generous donation. For the items that are too large to ship, delivery in the

continental US will be provided at the lowest cost possible. Shipping is included in the smaller perks
and is offered anywhere in the continental US. The top perk will be a log bed made from local Texas cedar
and delivered to your home, set up and ready to put your mattress and box springs in! Pictured below
is the very first one I built for myself and my wife. The box spring and mattress sit on an independent frame
that is not connected to the cedar allowing your covers to be tucked in on the sides with 2" of space.

Thanks for visiting the Wildwood page! Below is a link to some of my furniture projects. Once the new business
is up and running, all of these will be moved to a new website dedicated to Wildwood. For now, they are on my
Hanna Woodworks site along with hundreds of outdoor constuction projects.
